                                    History provides a broad-based field of study that requires students to develop and utilize critical thinking, writing, and oral communication skills.  As a result, History Majors are prepared for a variety of professional occupations.  Listed are just a few examples of the types of  industries, businesses, and governmental agencies that rely on the research, analytical, and communication skills that a History Degree provides.  Note: These are just a few of the jobs available to History majors.

                       

                   Marketing and Advertising

                             - Researching market performance and analyzing historical marketing techniques.

                       

                        Publishing

-          Copyediting, manuscript evaluation, researching market demands for historical editing

 

Public Relations

-          Research and analysis for public trends, manage company archives, and write historical material for promotional purposes.

 

Corporate (General)

-          Market analysis, Financial analysis, Political analysis, serve as a staff trainer in foreign cultures, diversity and multicultural training.

 

Law

-          Law School, Paralegal, or legal research.

 

 

Insurance

-          Claims Examiner (evaluating and settling claims), Marketing, Public Relations, or Company Archives

 

Film and Visual Media

-          Research and write historical documentaries.  As an employee or independent consultant, provide information and archival research for motion picture firms, television companies, and record industries.

 

Journalism

-          Use research skills, writing skills, and oral history techniques newspapers, magazines, and professional editing companies.

-          Museum specialist, Curator, Historian, or Archivist in one of the many National Museums.
