Elias L. Taylor

Dr. Elias L. Taylor, Professor of Sociology and former Chairperson of Social Sciences, specializes in anthropology, sociology, social psychology, research methods, and statistics. His interests include the study of cultural, military, and religious institutions. He has recently completed an analysis of Greek military revolutions and published his work on religious minorities in Greece in several international periodicals. With other colleagues, he has recently published INTERSECTIONS: Readings in Sociology, Pearson Publications (2005). A recent publication INSIGHTS: A Social Psychology Reader has been published in 2007.

As a member of the Eastern Sociological Society, he frequently presents papers at its annual conference meetings and he is a member of the American Anthropological Association.

His efforts to improve the quality of the social sciences curriculum at Coppin include the development and introduction of sociology and anthropology courses, the establishment of PGM (an International Honors Society in Social Sciences), the installation of AKD (an Honors Society in Sociology), the introduction of computers in social research and statistics courses, and the development of a minor concentration in anthropology. He recently developed an upper level statistical analysis course for students who plan to enter graduate programs. He is currently completing an Applied Research for graduate students in the M.S. Program. Additionally, he recently created a Faculty-wide Institute for Statistical Training (FIST).

At Coppin, Dr. Taylor is a member of the Faculty Senate, serves on the university-wide Appeals Committee and the Institutional Review Board, and is president of the newly installed AAUP Chapter at Coppin. Additionally, he is Coordinator of the Sociology and Anthropology programs. He is a graduate of Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida and holds the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the New School University, Graduate Faculty for Political and Social Research, New York City, NY.

Professor Taylor loves sports (soccer, lacrosse, American football, college wrestling, field hockey) and has a special affection for track and field events. He often listens to all types of music (i.e., rock, classical, jazz, Irish and Greek folk melodies).
