COPPIN
STATE UNIVERSITY
Department of Natural Sciences
Dr.
Alfred N. Amah
Associate Professor
Organic Chemistry
I
currently teach Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry and Chemistry for
Allied Health Professionals at Coppin State Univeresity and at Towson University
on a part-time basis. My course syllabi have information on other sites
in chemistry.
My research
interest is in the area of synthesis of novel organic compounds using
Flash Vacuum Pyrolysis Techniques; isolation and purification of natural
products and uses of spectroscopic methods to study organic reactions
(NMR, MS, CMR).
A graduate
of Cuttington University College, Liberia (B.Sc.), Ball State University
in Muncie, Indiana (M.A.), and Iowa State University in Ames Iowa (Ph.D.),
I have taught organic chemistry courses at several institutions (College
of Science and Technology, University of Liberia, Iowa State University,
Front Range Community College in Colorado, Colorado State University,
Towson University, Community College of Baltimore) and now at Coppin State
College.
My professional
responsibilities include activities, such as Coppin State Chapter of the
Beta Kappa Chi, an honorary scientific society, chairperson of the minority
section of the American Chemical Society for the State of Maryland; member
of the Third World Academy of Science (TWAS), International Foundation
for Science (IFS), and Pan African Union of Science and Technology (PUST).
Some colleagues
of mine have agreed to share their very resourceful and valuable Web sites
with my students. They include Liina Ladon (TU), Dr. Shirish Shah (CND)
and Dr. Sweeting (TU). These Web sites are valuable in the study of chemistry,
especially organic chemistry.
E-mail me
at aamah@.coppin.edu.
I shall appreciate any suggestions and/or comments. The chemistry courses
that I teach include the following:
